OK let's face it, summer was a bit of a non-event. Not nearly enough fun in
the sun even for those of us who managed to get away for a few short weeks.
So in this issue of the magazine we've concentrated on helping you get the
max out of the mellow season.
In Al Fresco there are emergency picnic ideas for those who want to
make the
most of the autumn sunshine. We also have a recommendation for a
Soul Space
weekend which, since its in Wales, would be improved by good weather
but is not essential to the enjoyment of the experience.

What else? Well how about designing your garden to be in tune with the elements, even if they do include rather more water and wind than is entirely desirable. In
Design Dimensions Carol Franklin looks at how feng shui works in the great outdoors. Meanwhile, Tim Miles visits Roger Clarke, a Gardening Guru inspired by hearing opera on a barge and watching round-the-world yatchtsman Pete Goss go sailing by his Greenway Garden in Devon.

In Style File Nicky Godding finds you something stylish to sit on and Nick Dickinson, our resident design guru also has some ideas for how to place those seats for maximum comfort and impact. For
Out and About I've sourced some glass which you can use for just about anything, including paths and, a la Pippa Greenwood, mulching in pots!
Alternatively, if the British summer time makes you feel like emigrating to warmer climes, check out
Inside Interests for some ideas on how to make enough money to finance your dream. But before you go, don't forget to mail us with any comments or ideas - we love hearing from you!
